WIGAN OPEN EXHIBITION RETURNS FOR 2026
The Wigan Open Exhibition is back and for 2026 it’s taking over the iconic Wigan Pier from 17–24 March for a bold, joyful celebration of creativity from Wigan and beyond.
This much-loved open exhibition brings together an exciting mix of contemporary work by artists at every stage of their journey. Expect to discover pieces by established professionals alongside recent graduates, students, emerging talent and first-time exhibitors, all sharing space, ideas and ambition under one roof.
From ceramics and textiles to painting, print, photography, sculpture and installation plus digital and moving image, the exhibition will transform Wigan Pier into a vibrant snapshot of contemporary creative practice, packed with fresh perspectives, new voices and familiar talent.
For 2026, The Old Courts has partnered with Wigan and Leigh College and TERM Art Classes to create meaningful behind-the-scenes opportunities for students. Working alongside professional artists and producers, students will gain hands-on experience in curation, planning, project management and exhibition production — and even take part in judging one of the exhibition prizes.

Exhibition launch: Tuesday 17 March, 6pm–9.30pm
